Locronan

Locronan is a magical village just adjacent to Quimper. Although I didn’t have a car, I was convinced that there would be a bus that could easily take me to the tiny town after calculating the distance. The first evening in Quimper I went to the local tourism office and was kindly instructed (in French) how to get there the following day. Never have I been so happy to have been studying French the past two years! I was able to get there and back for 3 euros! Because it was off season, I had the town mostly to myself. The only downside is that most of the businesses were closed, they don’t open again until late November for the holiday festivities.

In Locronan I felt like I was in a movie (there have been a few that have been shot there) and I saw a house that if I had the means, I would’ve purchased. I also had the best kouign amann pastry avec pommes (breton pastry with apples) that I’ve ever had. It was slightly warm and the apples had so much flavor. It gave me a lot of inspiration for when I return home when I make kougin amann for Christmas.

Here are some photos that I took of the town. If you do plan to visit, come in April when the summer crowds are not overwhelming and the weather is pleasant. If you do come in fall, plan up to October, maybe not November when it is rainy and many shops are closed until Christmas season.
